Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will be traveling from London to the U.S. when Oscar nominations are announced.
After a quiet year for genre last year, three big hits are up for Best Picture–with Wicked leading the charge.
“Emilia Pérez” and “ Wicked ” emerged January 23 as the two Oscar craft juggernauts, scoring seven nominations apiece and setting up a battle of the musicals at the 97th Academy Awards on March 2. This matches the seven craft nominations of last year’s eventual Best Picture winner “Oppenheimer.”
Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott had the early-morning duty to announce this year’s Oscar nominations. “Emilia Pérez” had the most nominations with 13 including best picture and best actress, The Associated Press reported. The movie adaptation of the Broadway hit “Wicked” had 10 nominations.
The LGBTQ media advocacy organization also shared its nominees in TV, music, Broadway, podcast and video game categories.
Ariana Grande is nominated for best actress in a supporting role, but Wicked misses out on best adapted screenplay.
How wild is that? Eigenberg has had a long career as an actor, outside of playing Steve in Sex and the City, And Just Like That, and the movies. So no one expected for him to voice one of the animals in Wicked, and have just one line of dialogue in the movie musical. But clearly Grande is a fan.
