First baseman Pete Alonso, nicknamed the Polar Bear, is staying with the New York Mets on a new two-year deal.

Slugger Pete Alonso and the New York Mets are in agreement on a two-year, $54 million contract, sources told ESPN on Wednesday, ending a lengthy free agency with a return engagement to the only team for which he has played.

Pete Alonso, the top free-agent first baseman available this offseason, has signed an agreement to remain with the New York Mets, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.  It's a two-year deal for Alonso that is worth $54 million guaranteed,
