San Antonio Police Chief William McManus held an impromptu press conference near the incident around 10:30 p.m. and explained to local media about what transpired. It was initially reported that only four police officers were shot during the incident.

He was a father and a 10-year Navy veteran with a criminal history and ties to Comal County, according to deputies.

The unidentified suspect shot an officer who first arrived at the scene then proceeded to shoot six more officers more, the San Antonio Police Department said.
