A New Jersey police officer died after a snowmobile accident in New York over the weekend. Steven Fernandez, a 39-year-old an officer with the Ridgefield Park Police Department, was seriously injured Saturday, his family said.

The man lost control of his snowmobile and struck trees after sliding down a steep embankment, New York State Police said.

A New Jersey man has died following a deadly snowmobile crash in Franklin County, New York. New York State Police said 39-year-old Steven Fernandez of Saddlebrook, NJ was riding west on the rail trails near McMaster Road and McCauley Pond in Harrietstown when he lost control and went down an embankment.
