A royal tomb belonging to an ancient Egyptian king has been unearthed, in what has been called a “remarkable” discovery by officials.

Archaeologists in Egypt have found the tomb of King Thutmose II — the first discovery of an ancient royal tomb since King Tutankhamun's in 1922.

A joint Egyptian-British mission has identified an ancient tomb near Luxor as that of King Thutmose II, marking the first discovery of a pharaonic royal tomb in more than 100 years, Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said on Tuesday.

The unearthing of the tomb of ancient Egyptian King Thutmose II is being described as one of the most important archaeological discoveries in recent years.

The discovery is the first of its kind since King Tutankhamun's tomb was found in 1922, Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said.

Egypt announced that an ancient tomb was recently discovered, marking the first such royal tomb uncovered in over 100 years, said its Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
