GREENVILLE — Several weeks after launching a campaign to purchase the Big Moose Mountain ski property, a local nonprofit is nearly a sixth of the way to its $5.95 million goal.

Grandfather Mountain, the not-for-profit nature park run by the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation, has bid farewell to Ajax the bald eagle.

Ajax was often seen flying between perches in his habitat, swimming in the pond and sharing perches with Griffin, another bald eagle.
