The Santa Ana winds have finally died down, allowing firefighters to bring almost 40 thousand acres of wildfires under control.

There are no evacuation orders in place now for the Eaton and Sepulveda Fires in LA County, the Clay Fire in Riverside County or the Laguna Fire in Ventura County. Evacuation orders were in place for areas near the Laguna Fire but have since been changed to evacuation warnings, according to Cal Fire.

Two major fires are still uncontained in the Los Angeles area with red flag warnings issued for Monday, meaning powerful Santa Ana winds will make conditions hard for crews to fight already devastating blazes.

Climate change has brought both fiercer rains and deeper droughts, leaving the city with brush like kindling—and the phenomenon is on the rise worldwide.

Unfortunately, the Santa Ana winds are expected to return before January is over, bringing wildfire risks back up in Southern California.
