Todd McLellan voiced a very powerful comment to the players in the Detroit Red Wings locker room, including a special mention for veteran leader Patrick Kane.

The Detroit Red Wings will be without Patrick Kane when they welcome the Montreal Canadiens to Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.

Kane remains day-to-day according to the Wings, so his placement won't impact his return date, especially having already been ruled out against the Kings on Monday. It does free up a roster spot to bring a forward up from AHL Grand Rapids, a move that would seem to indicate that Vladimir Tarasenko (illness) won't be healthy enough to play.

Kane remains day-to-day and will miss his third straight game. He has produced 11 goals, 30 points and 91 shots on net across 42 appearances this season. J.T. Compher (undisclosed) won't play Monday,

On Monday, the Red Wings officially announced that they had signed forward Dominik Shine to a two-year deal that will cover both this current season as well as the next. Shine has been a part of the Red Wings organization for nearly a decade, but has never played in a National Hockey League game.

Tyler Motte has been cleared to play so the Detroit Red Wings will have him back against the Kings, but Patrick Kane remains out with an injury.
