PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — TriMet riders in Portland will enjoy free rides tomorrow, Feb. 4, in honor of Rosa Parks, as the transit agency commemorates what would have been her 112th birthday. Each year, TriMet waives fares on buses, MAX, and LIFT services to celebrate Parks and her significant contributions to the civil rights movement.

TriMet, c-Tran and Portland Streetcar are offering free rides on the birthday of civil rights icon Rosa Parks, marking the fifth year of honoring her legacy.

TriMet will once again waive bus and MAX train fares for an entire day next week in honor of celebrated civil rights leader Rosa Parks. All public transit rides will be free Tuesday, Feb. 4 — the same day Parks was born in 1913. In 1955, Parks, who was Black, refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus.
