The NHL-leading Washington Capitals have signed goaltender Logan Thompson to a six-year contract extension worth $35.1 million.

The Washington Capitals have re-signed goaltender Logan Thompson to a six-year, $35.1million contract extension, senior vice president and general manager Chris Patrick announced today. Thompson’s contract will carry an average annual value of $5.85 million.

It would have been a perplexing thought to many if they were told ahead of the season that the Washington Capitals were the NHL's best team and Logan Thompson was one of its top goaltenders past the halfway point.
