An off-duty Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed in a targeted ambush outside his Belle Glade home late Monday, the Sheriff’s Office said.

An off-duty Palm Beach County corrections deputy was "targeted and ambushed" when he was fatally shot in Belle Glade on Monday night, the sheriff's office said.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office identified the deputy as Basil Powell, 39, who had worked at the West Corrections Center for three years.

The shooting was targeted, the sheriff's office says. It has not identified the deputy but said he was 39 years old and was with PBSO for three years.
