The Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League and the city's as-yet unnamed WNBA team will train together at a new performance center in a first-of-its-kind alliance between the two leagues.

Lisa Bhathal Merage and Alex Bhathal, the principals of RAJ Sports, are building a dual-sport women's performance center for the NWSL's Portland Thorns and the WNBA expansion franchise that will begin play in 2026.

Led by RAJ Sports, Portland is building the first-ever dual-sport women's performance complex to house the city’s NWSL and WNBA teams.

The project comes a little over one year after the Bhathal family, who are also investors in the NBA’s Sacramento Kings, completed its $ 63-million acquisition of the Thorns. In September, the family was a warded the WNBA’s 15th franchise, which has sold more than 8,000 season tickets before announcing its name.

A state-of-the-art facility and a first-of-its-kind, the Thorns and Portland's future WNBA team are expected to open a joint practice facility by early 2026, owners and operators RAJ Sports announced Thursday.
