A father has been jailed for at least 15 years for murdering his daughter after the jury rejected his claim he had killed her in a play-fight. Scarlett Vickers, 14, bled to death at her home in Darlington after being stabbed deep in the chest with a kitchen knife by her father Simon Vickers, 50, in July.

Simon Vickers, an England father, receives a life sentence for fatally stabbing his 14-year-old daughter, Scarlett Vickers, during an alleged "play-fight."

Sentencing Simon Vickers, Mr Justice Cotter said: "Scarlett was just 14, a normal, healthy girl with a long life ahead of her when it was cut short by you." The judge said that night Vickers had drunk more than four glasses of wine and had smoked cannabis.

A jury found Scarlett Vickers' dad Simon guilty of murder after a trial heard it was 'practically impossible' to cause the injury that killed her accidentally. During police interviews he said 'I must be the unluckiest man in the world.
