International Paper said on Thursday it was shutting down four production facilities in the U.S. and laying off about 1% of its global workforce to tackle softer demand for its packaging products from e-commerce and consumer goods firms.

Sustainable packaging solutions provider International Paper (IP) is set to shut down four of its US facilities by the end of April 2025. The shutdown is a part of the company’s efforts to streamline its operations and focus on sustainable packaging solutions.

The Campti facility, known as the Red River Mill, produces about 800,000 tons of containerboard annually and is the largest private employer in Natchitoches Parish.
