We are thinking about stopping here on the way back to Portland from Bar Harbor. We have to go out of our way an additional hour to stop here. Worth it?

It is definitely worth it. Give yourselves at least an hour in the museum. We could have stayed all afternoon. It was one of the highlights of our 10 day visit to coastal Maine.
